Summer 2 Learning
What a fantastic half term it has been at Beauclerc! We have thoroughly enjoyed our final term together, and it has been another busy one filled with exciting events and activities that our pupils will cherish.
Our memorable highlights included a vibrant Sports Day, where the children showcased their athletic talents, an exhilarating disco, and a cosy movie night. We also immersed ourselves in creativity during our Take One Picture project week and had a wonderful time celebrating Maths Week. The term culminated with graduations, making it a truly special conclusion to their journey at Beauclerc.
In English, the children were captivated by the enchanting story of The Tear Thief. They displayed their creativity by designing their own unique thieves, with imaginative characters such as the hayfever thief, the anger thief, and the hilariously whimsical bogey thief! They planned and crafted their own stories about these characters collecting various emotions, learning about empathy in the process.
We also delved into the fascinating world of biographies, exploring the lives of notable figures like Tom Daley, Florence Nightingale, and Michael Phelps. This exploration allowed our students to identify key features of biographies, which they then used to create their own autobiographies, with remarkable enthusiasm and creativity.
In Maths, our adventures took us through time, statistics and the concepts of position and direction. During Maths Week, we engaged in practical learning activities that enabled us to explore different ways to represent data. The children gathered information about their classmates and learned to create tally charts, tables, pictograms, and bar charts. Their excitement as they analysed data was truly infectious!
Our Science lessons have introduced us to various scientists and their important inventions and discoveries. From Tim Smit and the Eden Project to Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, the first British female surgeon, the children were eager to learn and even went on a virtual tour of the biomes!
In History, we travelled back to the Victorian era, discovering what schools were like in the past. We ordered significant events in education, compared old-school resources to those we use today, and even tried our hand at handwriting on chalkboards—though the cane and finger stocks were rather daunting!
Our Art unit, 'Map it Out', provided a creative outlet where the children produced amazing maps using various mediums. They began by drawing their route to school in chalk, pastels, and crayons before recreating it in 3D and even designing abstract maps in the style of stained glass windows.
