Autumn 1

We would like the children to talk about their families with you and choose a photograph to bring into school. This will be displayed alongside their family trees that they have painted and drawn people on.

If you are out and about with your children at the weekends or after school, you could discuss the signs of Autumn with them. What do they notice? We have been on an Autumn walk around our school grounds and another one took place at Chennestone school when they spent the day there earlier this week. Perhaps the children could bring some conkers and acorns etc. into school or different coloured leaves for use on our display and loose parts area.

We have also been thinking about where we live and comparing this to different parts of this country and the world. We are making a display to include a map of the Uk and a map of the world. We would like to attach some photos around the map of where the children have recently visited. Please could you send in a photograph and a brief description of the place so that we can help your child to locate their place on a map.

Thank you

Autumn 2

We would like the children to continue to talk to you about their families but with a focus on ways you celebrate together. This could be birthdays or other special festivals. We will be looking at many festivals during this half term including Divali, Harvest and Christmas and we will be talking about the significance of Remembrance day. If your child has some special artefacts or books and photos related to any of these, please send them into school as we would really like to share with the rest of the class.

Thank you to those of you who are listening to your child read at home or spending time talking about the story. Please could we ask you to comment in the diary every time you have read together. Also please could we ask that you send your child's reading book and diary in every day so that we can comment in your child's diary when we hear them read.

Please continue to practise name writing. Writing Birthday and Christmas cards are perfect activities for this! If your child has already mastered this please focus on correct letter formation and position of letters. Please watch the Read Write Inc phonic videos on writing if unsure of the formation taught. Cutting and sticking activities to pracitise scissor control are always fun to do together and playing games such as snakes and ladders, ludo and dominoes.

Thank you for practising the sounds and the words that we have been sending home. We will issue your child with new words once they have mastered the current ones.

Thank you
