Spring Term 2 - Shall we blast off in a rocket to space?

Week 1 – This week we have started out new topic ‘Shall we blast off in a rocket to space?’ Our book this week is ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. This week we celebrated Pancake Day by making pancakes and getting to eat them in snack time! They were very yummy, and Bumblebee Class enjoyed that a lot! In numeracy we recapped some learning from last half term such as weighing and pattern. We also spoke about how Christians start lent.

Week 2 – This week we read the book ‘Look Up!’ by Nathan Bryon. We thought about how we might be able to see the meteor shower and what weather conditions we would need. In numeracy we looked at height and length. Bumblebee Class loved being able to compare the heights of each other and measure themselves on the height chart. We also built out own rockets out of the building blocks. We also celebrated World Book Day twice, and were able to express all their favourite books.

Week 3 – This week we read ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. Bumblebee class loved making their own pants by bringing different materials together. In numeracy we had a focus on number 1 and made it in different ways. We used our eyes to match together the patterned pants, and carried on making our solar system. They all loved being aliens while playing with the underpants! We has a special assembly on Tuesday about team work and for the rest of the week the children loved working together as a team!

While being funny aliens who LOVE pants, we also thought about the NSPCC Pantosaurus! We spoke about how to keep safe and reminded ourselves that if we ever feel uncomfortable we have the right to say NO!

Week 4 – This week we were busy reading The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers. In numeracy we have been focusing on the number 2, and how we can make it in different ways. We observed the celebration of St. Patrick ’s Day by making shamrocks by using out cutting skills. We all enjoyed singing Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer. We also made our mother’s day cards, while thinking about how much we love our mum’s. We hope you all had a lovely mother’s day!

Week 5 – This week we have been busy with our space fact book, learning lots of information about space. This week we have been busy junk modelling making sure our hands are busy! We also had fun colour mixing in the cornflour, we then had a go writing all the sound that we know in it.

Week 6 – This week Bumblebee class were very busy creating lots of amazing rockets, instruments, painting and lots of other objects. We were busy looking at matching patterns in mathematics, as well as exploring the number 4. We read ‘The Smeds and the Smoos’ by Julia Donaldson and we created our own Smeds and Smoos on the playdough table. We had an Easter egg hunt in our outside area where we found clues through using our rhyming words, and at the end of the week we had a big hunt with the whole school in the playground. We had a reminder of why it is important to brush our teeth, especially as easter is coming and we might eat a little more chocolate then we normally would. This half term the older Bumblebee’s have started reading phonics by using Read, Write, Inc. and they have all worked incredibly hard to start learning their sounds. So far they have learnt; m,a,s,d,t,i,p,g,o,c and k. We are excited to carry on after the Easter break. Hope you all have a wonderful spring break and come back ready to learn.
