Summer 1 - Do you know how they grow?

This week we have been settling back in to Bumblebee Class after our two weeks off! This week we started our new topic of ‘Do you know how they grow?’ and started off with ‘The Very Busy Spider’. We looked at different types of spiders, then how and why they build their webs. In phonics we learnt the sounds c and k, and in mathematics we recapped everything they know about numbers 1-4. Outside we have done lots of gardening. We have planted our bulbs and seeds, and pulled lots of weeds out.

This week we have read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We explored the story and looked at the lifecycle of a butterfly. In mathematics we looked at the number 5. In phonics we learnt u and b. We have also started to learn our assembly songs. On Tuesday we learnt about who St. George was for St. George’s day. On Friday we completed our wild run!

This week we were super busy reading ‘The Little Acorn’, and talking about what we know about the life cycle of a tree. In Mathematics, we learnt all about the number zero, and thought about where it has its place in 0-5. Unfortunately our workshop was cancelled on the Wednesday, but we still had a super fun day building our ant farm, and doing lots on mini-beast activities. In phonics, we learnt the sounds f and e.

This week has been a busy one fitting in our healthy eating along with our wild workshop! In phonics we learnt the sounds l and h. in mathematics we have been looking at adding one more onto a number. On Wednesday we had our wild workshop where the animals could hold and touch lots of different animals and reptiles and learn all about them. Then after a small break, we went straight into a bubble workshop where we were able to explore the science of bubbles. The children even made their own to take home!

This week we were learning all about frogs. We read the book The Perfect Ribbit, and learnt all about the life cycle of a frog. In phonics we did r and j, and in mathematics we did one less. On Wednesday morning we had a very exciting class photo. We have also been practicing lots for our class assembly which is on Wednesday 22nd March at 10:30am.
