KS1 SATs Information
The Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) are taken at the end of key stage 1 by pupils in year 2.
After the tests are taken, they are marked internally in school. The results of the SATs scores will be taken into consideration alongside all of their work from across the key stage 1 to form a 'teacher assessment judgement' of their end of Year 2 level.
The children will complete 6 SATs papers in total which will assess their knowledge in Maths and English.
The marks from each test are converted into a scaled score for that particular subject. 100 or more means that your child is working at, or, above, the expected standard for the key stage.
How to Support your Child
- Support your child with their home learning and use lots of praise and encouragement when they are doing their reading or activities.
- Ensure your child has the best possible attendance at school
- Reading, spelling and arithmetic (e.g. number bonds and times tables) are always good to practise.
- Read a little at a time but often, rather than rarely but for long periods of time.
- Talk to your child about what they have learnt at school and what book(s) they are reading. Use VIPER questions to aid understanding of the text.
- Encourage opportunities for mental arithmetic games including counting in different amounts forwards and backwards. Lots of opportunities for counting coins and money e.g. finding amounts or calculating change when shopping.
- Encourage opportunities for purposeful writing, such as letters to family or friends, shopping lists, notes or reminders, stories or poems.
- Make sure your child has a good night's sleep. It is recommended 10-11 hours of sleep a night for a Year 2 child.
- Eat a healthy breakfast every morning!
