Summer 2 - Do you like to be beside the seaside?

This week we started our new topic question ‘Do you like to be beside the seaside?’. We made some sand pictures, and learnt about rock pools, we even drew our own rock pool outside with the chalk. In phonics we did sounds z and w, and in mathematics we recapped what we knew about shapes and numbers 1-5.

This week we have been busy reading Rainbow Fish, talking about sharing and how to make our friends happy. In phonics we did x and our first special friend ‘sh’. In mathematics we have been talking about day and night, routines, and days of the week. On Friday we spoke about the Euros and designed our own football kits.

This week we have been busy learning how why we should keep the sea clean. We read the book ‘The Undersea Cleaning Spree’, and had a go at cleaning our own ocean in class with the tweezers. In mathematics we moved to capacity where we thought about how much we had in our containers. In phonics we learnt the sounds ‘th’ and ‘ch’.

This week we read the book ‘Mr Seahorse’, and we had a chat about the life cycle of a seahorse and who carries the eggs! In mathematics we have done Positional Language, where we used teddy bears to test our friends, played where is the monkey?, and we’re going on a bear hunt. In phonics we did special friends qu and ng. We also had a lovely sports day on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who made it, the children loved having you there.

This week we have been super busy practicing our graduation. We finished our nursery phonics with the sound nk, and in mathematics we have started to recap our learning by thinking about our numbers 1-5 in different ways such as singing, adding, taking away, and knowing the amounts. Our book this week has been the tickly octopus.

This week we have been very busy preparing and performing our graduation. We have been recapping learning that we have done this year, such as numbers and shapes. After our graduation we started to prepare for our end of year party by making ice lollies by using our capacity skills and filling the moulds up to the top!
