Annual written report to parent/carers: children’s achievements
Every year we provide a written report to each child’s parent/carer on the child’s progress in the various National Curriculum subjects. This report identifies areas of strength and areas for future development. Teachers are asked to report their ‘Teacher Assessment’ in Reading, Writing and Maths and we also give parent/carers in Year 1 the details of their child’s performance in the phonics tests, and in Year R the EYFS profile outcomes.
As well as receiving the annual written report, parent/carers are provided with the opportunity to speak to their child’s teacher twice a year for a private parent-teacher consultation through parent/carer evenings and through an annual ‘open classroom’. This gives them the opportunity to celebrate their child’s successes, and to support their child in areas where there is a particular need for improvement. Parent/carers are also given information on where their child is performing in relation to age related expectations and targets which the child is currently working on in core subjects. We encourage parent/carers to contact the school if any issues arise regarding their child’s progress or well-being throughout the academic year.
At the start of the school year, we will invite you to attend a curriculum evening run by the year team, the Phase Team leader, and supported by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). These events are designed to provide you with important information about the curriculum and the activities your child will be engaged in throughout the year. We aim to schedule these meetings within the first two weeks of the school year, and the details of each session will be outlined on our 'What's on Flyer'. A reminder will be sent out to ensure all parents are informed and able to attend.
Furthermore, each Year Group will be sending out a Parent Information leaflet at the beginning of each term. This document will outline the curriculum plans and key activities for the upcoming term, giving you an insight into what your child will be learning and experiencing.
Additionally, we will be organising additional Parent Showcase events every term. These events are a wonderful opportunity for our children to showcase and celebrate their hard work and achievements with you, their parents, and carers. We encourage you to attend and show your support for your child's learning journey.
MarvellousMe
Marvellous Me is a simple app that supports home school partnerships and allows staff in school to regularly share wonderful news about your child’s learning and positive behaviour.
Newsletter
Our Federation newsletter is a fantastic resource for keeping you informed about all the activities and events happening at our schools. Each edition is packed with general details of upcoming events, as well as highlights of the wonderful learning experiences taking place in our classrooms. We believe that it is important to celebrate our school community and the achievements of our pupils, and the newsletter provides a lovely platform for this.
One of the key features of our newsletter is the celebration of our Achievement Champions. Every fortnight, we recognise those children who have particularly impressed our teachers and staff with their focus and achievements. It is a wonderful way to spotlight the hard work and dedication of our pupils, and we encourage you to take the time to read about these remarkable young learners.
The newsletter is conveniently emailed directly to families, so you can easily access it. For those who prefer an online version, you will also find it available on our school website. We recommend checking both sources regularly to stay up-to-date.
Information Letters
- We send other letters of a general nature when necessary, such as:
- Progress Meetings
- Letters re. out of school visits, payments, confirmation and approval
- Invitations to SEND Meetings, School Performances, Sporting Events etc.
- Letters regarding curriculum enrichment activities – Music, Sport, Modern Foreign Languages etc.
- Information about assemblies
Pupil Reading Diaries
At the start of the academic year, KS1 children, receive a reading diary free of charge. This is used by the pupils to record homework, items needed in school etc, but is also for parents to communicate with staff.
Pupil diaries in all year groups are sent out (and returned) on a daily basis each week. Parent/carers are requested to sign the diary each time they listen to their child read. It can also be used for messages between home and school. Once a child is old enough, we encourage children to record their own reading in their diaries and ask for this to be acknowledged by the parent/carer.
Direct contact with teachers
The school encourages parent/carers to share any issues concerning their child at the earliest opportunity. We provide the opportunity for many Early Years or Key Stage 1 parent/carers to speak with the teacher when they bring their children to school or when they collect them; we find that this ‘immediacy’ and ‘availability’ enhances the home-school communication.
Children may be given verbal or written messages to take home and communication may increase in the reading diary. However, in the interests of all concerned, this would not be the best way to deal with complex or protracted issues. If such issues arise, we ask you to contact the school office to arrange a suitable meeting time and to respect the teacher’s decision if they suggest that an appointment is more appropriate.
Information Meetings / Workshops
We arrange ‘Curriculum Meetings’ for parent/carers. These meetings enable staff to explain areas of our curriculum that may have been requested by parent/carers through verbal feedback or questionnaires. ‘Training’ for parent/carers is scheduled through a series of workshops that demonstrate how parent/carers could support their child at home in core subject areas.
We hold transition meetings for new Early Years Foundation Stage parent/carers each summer.
Pupil Showcase Sessions
Throughout the year, we host special showcases that celebrate the diverse and enriching educational experiences your children are involved in. Whether it is during Black History Month, scientific explorations, or our recent ‘Take One Picture’ art extravaganza, these events are designed to highlight the engaging themes and projects your children have been exploring in their classes.
These showcases are typically held in our school hall, allowing us to display not only the amazing work your children have created but also to illustrate their progression throughout the year. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to take pride in their achievements and share their journey with you.
For further information on the upcoming showcases, please refer to our 'What's On' flyer that provide you with all the necessary details regarding dates and times, ensuring you don’t miss out on these delightful occasions.
We understand the importance of parental involvement in education, and we strive to create an environment where families can come together to celebrate the learning that takes place within our school. We encourage you to take part in these events and experience firsthand the fun and wonderful things your child is doing at school.
