Spring 1
As we reach the end of another exciting half term, we would like to share with you the wonderful learning experiences your children have been engaged in. It has been a vibrant and enriching time filled with creativity, exploration, and discovery!
In English, we kicked off our journey with poetry, where the children wrote their own versions of The Magic Box by Kit Wright. They thoughtfully reflected on their special memories and crafted their own unique magic box poems. Following this, we delved into the delightful story of Meerkat Mail, inspiring the children to write their own narratives based on the adventures of the meerkats. To wrap up our English learning, we explored instruction writing. The children had a blast creating their own monster pizzas, complete with some rather disgusting ingredients, and wrote step-by-step instructions on how to make them!
In Maths, we concluded our previous topic with a fun carousel of activities designed to reinforce our new knowledge. The children enjoyed various games and challenges, making learning both enjoyable and effective. We have now transitioned to multiplication and division, where the children are developing their skills and confidence in these essential areas.
Our Science lessons have been particularly fascinating this half term as we explored the theme of animals, including humans. We have covered a range of topics, including life cycles, animal offspring, and how we grow and change. The children also learned about healthy eating, survival needs, and animal adaptations. A highlight was our engaging investigation where we experimented with how polar bears stay warm using blubber, and we even explored whether the oldest children have the biggest feet!
In Geography, we embarked on a journey to hot and cold climates. The children discovered the significance of the equator and learned that countries closer to it tend to be hotter. They also explored how animals survive in extreme temperatures and what essentials they would need for such adventures.
Finally, in Design Technology, we introduced sewing! The children quickly picked up the skills needed to do a running stitch. They designed and created their own pouches, selecting colourful felt and showcasing their creativity. Despite the challenges, they thoroughly enjoyed the process and produced some fantastic results!
It has been a fun-filled half term! Thank you for your continued support!
