Autumn 2
As we approach the festive season, we are excited to share the wonderful learning experiences our children have enjoyed this half term.
In History, we have absolutely LOVED our Great Fire of London topic! Our young historians became detectives, delving into evidence and artefacts to uncover the origins of the fire. They explored when and where it started, how it ignited, why it spread so rapidly, and the profound impact it had on London. A highlight was our engaging workshop, where students took on roles from the 1600s, including apothecaries, scripters, leather workers, and weavers. This immersive experience truly brought history to life!
In Science, our focus has been on everyday materials and their uses. The children discovered various materials found within our school and investigated their purposes. They conducted tests on properties such as absorbency and waterproofing, gaining insights into the origins of materials, distinguishing between manmade and natural sources. This hands-on exploration has sparked curiosity and understanding of the world around them.
In English, we delved into the story of Vlad and the Great Fire of London. Students wrote their own versions, following the experiences of the Farriner family during this historical event. Additionally, they learned about fact files and researched Samuel Pepys, uncovering fascinating details such as his secret diary code and his iconic wig!
In Maths, our exploration of shapes has been both fun and educational. The children named and described 2D and 3D shapes, focusing on their properties, including sides, faces, edges, and vertices. This foundational knowledge will support their future mathematical learning.
In RE, we studied Christianity and the significance of giving. Our discussions centred on the various ways we can give to others, highlighting that it doesn’t always require a physical object; a compliment, our time, or an act of kindness can be just as meaningful. We also explored how Christians express their love for God and the gifts associated with the first Christmas.
Overall, we have had another successful half term filled with learning and growth. We are all looking forward to the exciting adventures that await us in the next term.
Wishing you all a lovely Christmas break!
