History of Beauclerc School
In 1880 a house called Rippledene was built on the present Beauclerc school site. Rippledene was originally built on the other side of the Thames but was taken down and rebuilt on this side of the river after the old site was bought by the water board. In 1967 when the building was taken down the construction company found that the bricks used to rebuild the building had been individually numbered possibly in order to help the builder back in 1880 rebuild the house.
In 1931 Rippledene house was converted into a private school for children and it was at this point that it was named Beauclerc. Eight kings of England have been named Henry. Henry I (born 1068, ruled 1100-35) was the youngest son of William the Conqueror and was born in England. His nickname, Beauclerc, which means 'good scholar', was given him because of his fine education.
In 1975 the new school as we know it today was built on the Rippledene site and was renamed Beauclerc County Infant school.
